Description

The Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) emerged in 1980 and was a coalition of leftist political parties in El Salvador that formed a united front against the military-led government. The clash resulted in a devastating civil war that lasted twelve years, spanning from 1979-1992. Nicaragua’s Sandinista National Liberation Front stood in solidarity with the FMLN and many grassroots initiatives, both in Nicaragua and worldwide, emerged in support of the people of El Salvador during the conflict.
