This poster conveys a similar message to 4B, namely rejection of the dictator Anastacio Somoza. Somoza used his absolute political and military control to lead a corrupt and oppressive regime that brought riches to himself, his family, and his close allies at the expense of the Nicaraguan people. The Somoza dynasty enjoyed unwavering support from the U.S. government since its installation because of its pro-U.S. and anti-Communist stance. Drawing on Cold War fears of communism in its “own backyard,” the U.S. engaged in proxy wars across Latin America in an effort to contain political movements that were deemed a threat to their political and economic interests.
