FREE MOTHERLAND OR DIE!!!
Description
These words come directly from a message sent by Sandino to Captain Hatfield of the US Marines: “I received your communication yesterday and I understood it. I will not give up hope. I want a free country or death. I do not fear it; I have the burning patriotism of those who accompany me. Homeland and Freedom.” The two exchanged communication on the eve of the Battle of Ocotal on July 16, 1927, the first battle which saw peasants, miners and craftsmen put up a formidable fight against the US Marines. They were, however, defeated by the Marines and the National Guard.
