Sandino lives in the struggle for peace!

Description

Augusto César Sandino (1895 – 1934) was Nicaragua’s symbol of patriotism during the Revolution. Sandino fought to rid Nicaragua of the United States’ influence when they sent troops and military vehicles into the country under the guise of protecting the Nicaraguan people during the national election of 1913. He gained the support of most of the country when it became clear that the United States was only there to further its own agenda in the region. Posters with Sandino’s image were developed by the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FLSN) in an effort to legitimize the defense of the revolution during the Contra War and make the connection between Sandino’s original struggle against U.S. imperialism in the 1930s and the continuation of that struggle in the 1980s.
