4TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE NATIONAL LITERACY CRUSADE

Description

The Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) paid tribute to revolutionary icon Augusto César Sandino, for whom they are named, on the 4th anniversary of the National Literacy Crusade. Sandino was a revolutionary who advocated for education for all Nicaraguans, rejected U.S. military influence in the country, and led a rebellion against the U.S. between 1926 and 1933 using guerrilla tactics. He was executed under the direct orders of Somoza in 1934 and since the FSLN’s founding in 1961, the Sandinista Front has honored him as a symbol of their continued struggle and Nicaraguan patriotism.
