Description
Nicaraguans witnessed ongoing promotion of social well-being by various government ministries in neighborhoods across the country. In the words of Fernando Cardenal, coordinator of the National Literacy Crusade, education serves to “encourage people to take charge of their lives, to learn to become informed and effective decision-makers, and to understand their roles as responsible citizens possessing rights and obligations.” The literacy campaign was a part of a larger goal to increase the capacities of the Nicaraguan people.
